2017 Costco Advent Beer Calendar

There is massive interest in beer Advent calendars – celebrate the season with beer a day for December 1st through 24th. Costco carries the most widely available beer Advent calendars, but it’s not available at every store.

Costco’s 2017 Brewer’s Advent Calendar is a boxed set of 24 German different beers in 16.9 oz cans. They are loaded into a box with a Christmas scene on one side and numbers 1-24 on the other side.

It’s all local, but pretty standard, German beer. A few Dunkel style are as close as it gets to Christmas or Winter beer.

If you want to make your own beer Advent calendar, get a case or crate that holds 24 bottles. Download my list of 15 Favorite Christmas Beers, track them down, and load them in. Put a sheet of wrapping paper over the top and label the space over each bottle 1-24. Store in the garage to keep them cool and ready to go.

While it's difficult to picture Santa as a young man, he was once. He met the future Mrs. Claus one snowy night when she offered him a winter ale that she brewed herself. It was love at first sight - for both the Mrs. and her winter ales. With Santa's growing fame, his favorite brews became named after his favorite day - Christmas. Santa now travels the world each year to spread the joy that began in a stable in Bethlehem two millennia ago.

So we just opened the third beer from this calendar and just like the last two, there is a very overwhelming metallic flavor. This is very disappointing as last year’s beers were all excellent. Anyone else?

We experienced the exact same issue, metallic taste on them all.

      • Andrew

To be honest, they all taste the exact same to me…

They are all fairly oxidized and a few have had the metalic flavor you described IMO.

I also experiencing with metallic taste on most of the beers. What a shame 🙁

My boyfriend and I have had so much fun with this so far! I definitely don’t get the metallic taste that everyone is talking about.
Some beers have been meh. Some have been really good! Highly recommend.

The first comment I see mentions the metallic taste I was intent on mentioning. Some of the beers are good, some are terrible, but all have that same aluminum after taste. Perhaps they’ve been in the cans too long? Whatever the cause drink them fast and forget to taste! Happy Holidays folks
