Fish Tale Ales is an organic brewing company in Olympia, Washington. Fish Tale brews a full selection of great beers, include the Hobbit series and the Christmas Vacation series. Today, I’ll review Winterfish, a seasonal ale.
Winterfish pours light amber with a thin white head of foam. It smells of malts, orange zest, peaches, and grass.
On tasting, it’s hops, hops, and more hops. For bittering, flavor, and aroma, Fish Tale used 100% Yakima Chinook hops in the kettle. For additional flavor and aroma, it’s more Yakima Chinooks in the hop-back. It’s 70 IBU and drinks like a fine IPA. Although, it’s built on more malt base than a typical IPA, thus bumping it into the Northwest Winter Warmer. Floral and bright fruit come through from the hops.
The mouthfeel is medium, not sweet, with good carbonation and body and spice on my throat. It’s 7.5% ABV and warming.
